Reading Time

Scene: In the kitchen, dutifully making dinner, I call to Max in the family room to get a book to read for homework. Several minutes later, he still hasn't appeared with the book.

Me: Max! For the tenth time, go get a book to read!

Max: I did!

Me: Which one did you choose?

Max: The Crap in the Bathtub!

Me: Which one?!

Max: The Crap in the Bathtub!

Me: Max, read the title again.

Max: What do you mean? It says, The Crap in the Bathtub!

Me: No it doesn't. Read it again. Carefully.

Max: Ohhhhhh. The Carp in the Bathtub.

I dunno...The Crap In the Bathtub sounds like a pretty enthralling read to me...

Oh my! I have dealt with crap in the bathtub. It was almost joined by barf in the bathtub. Not sure I could stomach a book about it.
Ah, the things your mother never told you about parenthood!

Oh, I've read that one! Saved by a bathtoy strainer which then had to be thrown away...

Crap in the bathtub! I don't know whether to be grossed out or to laugh!

All I can do is laugh, and laugh, and laugh some more. I sit here, at home all alone, and I can't stop laughing.

Hahaha! Warn me next time-- I almost shot lemonade out my nose, I laughed so hard!

So much to relate to.
My max used to be very good at real crap in the bathtub.

Later in Grade 2, he told me about the books he was reading in "great books." One, he said, was Pus in Boots.

(A cautionary tale, I guess)
