Utah, I Sure Do Love Ya and Appreciatecha

I snuck into Salt Lake late Thursday night and back out Sunday morning. I picked up my rental car at the airport and the employee asked me what I was in town for. I quickly replied, "Work and family," and then kicked myself for not saying, "Business and pleasure," because it sounds so much cooler. Especially with a british accent.

Some (or none?) of you know that I work as a freelance copywriter, and my biggest (sometimes only) client is Mrs. Fields. I have been working with Mrs. Fields for three, almost four, years and I find them to be a great company to work with, especially when I open my front door and UPS is dropping off yet another shipment of cookies. Anyway, I write their gift catalog, their business catalogs, and also their blog.

Friday afternoon, I took part in an event held at Mrs. Fields Gifts. They invited a handful of local bloggers to come and tour the 158,000 square foot bakery and gifting facility. Luckily, not one blogger got lost in that giant space.

The tour is pretty spectacular. It's pretty much just like Willy Wonka's factory, minus all the unfortunate accidents. And Oompa Loompas.

In fact, if you live in or around the Salt Lake Valley, you should take a free tour. It's very cool. And the smell? Well, you can just imagine.

After the event, I got to spend some quality time with both Ryan's and my family and a couple of friends. There wasn't enough time to see everyone, so if I didn't see you, please forgive. Maybe next time?

I got back Sunday evening, just in time to miss Utah's May 24th snowfall. Good timing! As I lifted off the ground nestled between two strangers, I hope you heard me whisper (or Twitter) in the words of my dad, "Sure do love ya and appreciatecha!" Because I do.

way to capture the accent! Isn't it weird to rent a car at the airport in your hometown?

Look at you! You are such a grown up. The first time I rented a car by myself I thought "this is it, this is the event that has completely transitioned me from youth to a full fledged adult." Funny that I didn't think the same thing when I got married or had children.

Wow! That looks so fun. I love to get mail-- but to get cookies in the mail-- that's like miracle good. You have the coolest job!

Annie! Really! I hope he didn't change lanes in front of you w/o using his blinker. At least he does wear his seat belt now. ;) You should have honked . . . or maybe you did but we were too fast to hear it.

It was so good to have you here, Tiff. We do love ya and appreciatecha a lot.

What? No Oompa Loompas??

Sad I missed seeing you.... Morgan and I were busy having chocolate milkshakes for dinner, sitting too close to the TV, and staying up past our bedtimes. Oh yeah, and going to school. :)

Wait. I live in Utah. I blog. I like cookies. Why wasn't I invited to this event? I think I'm the perfect candidate. But I'm glad you had fun.

Too bad you missed our snow. At work we were all saying, "I wish it would snow until August!" Because who cares about hanging out at the pool and getting a tan during summer break. Not me.

It's too bad there weren't any Oompa Loompas! That would've been a great photo op.

Mmmm. So glad you got to go home. I don't know why, but I love touring huge manufacturing plants, I think the scope of what they can accomplish is astounding.

A) I'm freaking pissed as hell that I didn't get to see you, a nearly complete stranger. (But I forgive you. Maybe.)

B) My husband is Mrs.Fields' printer, so I'm sure he prints your handywork all the time! Funny, I didn't put 2 and 2 together until now. (Update, he doesn't print the catalogues. Just promotional stuff like posters and menus and signs and stuff.)
