Therapy Daydreams: "I'll just check a book out from the library or something."

We've all got issues, right? I'm one of those people who believes that we could all benefit from some good, old-fashioned, lie-on-the-sofa-and-spill-your-guts therapy. And sometimes, when I'm all up in my face about my own issues, analyzing them with my PhD-in-law (that's a PhD acquired by marriage), I imagine what it would be like to sit on that sofa and share my thoughts. I imagine it would go something like this...

(Hint: If you're reading this through a feed burner, you have to click over to watch the video.)

The ironic thing is, making this robot movie was strangely therapeutic.

This is funny and sad. I'm happy to help when I can. I've found that most people are very willing to help when you ask.

I would help too if you were all for random internet strangers doing things for you ;) I think I could use some robot therapy! And maybe even some real life couch stuff too.

I love this video. You know how to say things so well. Let me know if I can help with anything, I'm serious.

i hear you! sometimes i just wish people could read my mind and know that i would like a little help! and really, i don't want to have to ask for it either. thanks for the laugh today. maybe i'll go ask someone to help me decide what to cook for dinner. that's a good place to practice!

Ahhhh, thank you for that. Nothing like a little laughter therapy, especially when talking cartoon robots are involved.

(Note: I'm trying to wean myself from emoticons, and it's been a little harder than I thought. Just know that I'm smiling as I right this).

You can come and lie on my couch and talk as long as you'd like! I'll even feed you chocolate and rub your feet!

Let me know if I can do anything from here!

I'm really bad at asking for help too. Loved the robots.

Oh shoooooot. That was too funny. I love that you have your PhD-in-law. My husband has his marriage and family therapy masters in-law. He is quite smart as I am sure you are too.

I loved the robot therapy session. Hope you can start asking for help soon!

Oh oh. Why does that hit so close to home?

i think that you are really mrs. phd. not in-law. and i think that is much better. give yourself some credit.

Hang on, Tiff. Just 2 more weeks and it's group therapy time.

I think my whole family suffers from this dissorder. We never want to burden anyone with our issues. Made me laugh!

Slightly unrelated, but thank you for the most excellent phrase "PhD-in-law". I hope you don't mind if I reappropriate it slightly, as "getting my MD-in-law" describes precisely how I feel sometimes. I can't wait to graduate next spring!

I went to therapy about a dozen times last year when I wanted to divorce my in-laws. It was the funnest part of my whole week! I considered divorcing my husband and marrying my therapist so that he and I could sit around all day bagging on my (former) in laws.
