Three Things About My Love (Belated Valentine's Edition)

1. I believe that being in love means full support of someone else's goals, dreams, and pursuits. It's doing whatever it takes for however long to make one statement truer than any other, "I never could have done it without you."

2. I believe that being in love means letting the person you love be exactly who they are, and never trying to change them into a version of themselves that you think you might prefer. No changies. No reversies.

3. I believe that being in love means taking only a little piece of the chocolate chip cookie on the counter, leaving the rest for your sweetie. And then later, when you walk by the cookie, you may find that he has taken only a little bit of the cookie, leaving some more for you. And that is called being in love. Or maybe that is called being on a diet together and neither of you should be eating any of the cookie in the first place. In that case, the half-eaten cookie really has nothing to do with love and more to do with a guilty lack of self-control on both parts. But it's definitely one of those two.

Care to share three things about your thoughts on love?

I will share with you the three pieces of advice that our bishop gave us before we got married:

1. No dirty dishes. Meaning, that when you have a disagreement and you settle things - you are done. You cannot keep past arguments in the corner and bring them up and smash them over the other persons head like a dirty dish. Once it is over - it is over.

2. Don't go to bed angry.

3. Argue naked.

#3 is true love in deed. I wish I could think right now... All I know is that my love is waiting for me right now to watch 500 days of summer... that's true love if I ever saw it...

Love is never having to say you're sorry.
*Blink Blink*
that's one of my fave lines from one of my fave movies: What's Up Doc?

but really?
I'm with you on number 1 and I could really work on that. Thanks for the guilt trip!

Those were 3 really great thoughts on love. I have more questions on love than I do thoughts on love. But when I'm in love I'll totally tell you my thoughts on it. I swear.
Still LOVING your blog!

Omg, did you cut your hair?

Anyway, nothing says "I love you" like a nice punch on the shoulder.

jk, I don't know anything about love, because I'm 17 and can eat a whole cookie. Or the five I ate in the past 24 hours.

How did you become so wise? I am still learning these things you already have figured out- and I've been married for 18 years! Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Beautiful and so true. I am a firm believer in number one (and two and three). I think that along with that is believing in them until they believe in themselves. My husband is quite amazing (at a lot of things but specifically his j-o-b) and he hears it from people all the time. But sometimes the biggest boost to his confidence and inner strength is me telling him that I believe in him. I think also along with number two is appreciating the things that make them special.

So wise. I used to be better at leaving half a treat. Now I rationalize that he's probably had a better one at work, and I eat mine and half of his. BUT, I have rediscovered that a daily walk cuts my snacking down to nearly nil. I like not thinking about what to eat between meals.
